The Muskoka Lakes Chamber Of Commerce is calling on the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit to split Muskoka from Simcoe for public health restrictions.

While the chamber applauds the Health Unit for its hard work, it says they recognize the importance of moving into the Orange restriction level, they worry about businesses being forced into a next level or lockdown.

Higher numbers of cases are being reported in Simcoe – not Muskoka and they are worried the Health Unit may consider moving the entire Health Unit into lockdown when the local numbers may not support such a move.

The Chamber thanked MPP Norm Miller for raising this concern recently with Premier Ford and the chamber says new restrictions should be evaluated and decided by County or District, not by the entire geography of a Health Unit when the regions included are not homogeneous.
